From the Strætó app to Klappið
The challenge
Changing habits created the need for a complete overhaul of Strætó's systems. That meant rethinking how passengers buy tickets on board, and building a mobile app that could keep growing and be safer to use.
The solution
In 2021, Klappið launched alongside the Strætó app for public transport in the capital area. The first version let users buy tickets or passes and verify discounts through a third-party connection based on electronic ID.
Operations and development
Today the Strætó app lets travellers in the capital area buy tickets, plan trips and follow a live map of where their bus is. The app has been developed and improved continuously from the start, with very good results.
